The Woonsocket Police Copswalk is set to step off on this year’s mission on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 9:00am. There will be a very short ceremony in front of the Woonsocket Police Station, after which, all are invited to walk the first mile from the police station to Market Square.
Since 2001, the Woonsocket Police Copswalk has been committed to: (1) raising awareness to the sacrifices of fallen law enforcement officers, and (2) raising funds for the Concerns of Police Survivors. To date, the WPD Copswalk has raised more than $214,000.
Copswalk is a multi-day, relay-style, around-the-clock run from Woonsocket to Washington DC. Thirteen officers from
the Woonsocket Police Department take turns running 3 – 4 mile legs over three and a half days, bringing the team to the nation’s capital for National Police Week.
The team raised funds for police survivors through number events, including a comedy dinner, a bowl-a-thon, t-shirts, and a tag day. In 2017, the team donated a record $35,000 to the New England Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors.
