Rep. Ackerman re-elected Deputy Whip

STATE HOUSE — Rep. Mia Ackerman has been re-elected House Deputy Majority Whip by the House Democratic Caucus.

“I’m so pleased my colleagues are happy with the work I’ve been doing and have chosen to re-elect me to this important leadership position,” said Representative Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln). “We have accomplished so much together over the past two years and have so much more work to do. I’m eager to continue our efforts to improve the lives of Rhode Islanders.”

Deputy Whip Ackerman will work closely as part of the Democratic Leadership Team headed by Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick) and Majority Leader Christopher Blazejewski (D-Dist. 2, Providence). She became the first woman to hold the role of Deputy Whip in 2021 and was first elected as a state representative in November 2012. She has been a strong consumer and health care advocate, championing laws to combat cancer and protect consumers’ rights.

“Representative Ackerman has done a great job representing her constituents and our state,” said Rep. Brandon T. Voas (D-Dist. 57 Cumberland, Central Falls). “I was proud to vote for her for Deputy Majority Whip and look forward to working with her going forward.”

Before serving at the State House, Representative Ackerman served as a member of the Cumberland Town Council from 2006 to 2012. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She is a self-employed Real Estate Title Examiner.
