Message from Town Administrator

Gary Ezovski

We have installed the signs that are needed to accomplish the "DO NOT ENTER" condition on Old Smithfield Road, weekdays from 3 pm to 7 pm, but have them covered to allow the motoring public to take notice.  Our police department mobile message board is in use in school zones this week, but will be deployed this weekend to advise that the new traffic restriction with associated enforcement will take effect on Monday, September 11th.

TO ALL OUR RESIDENTS:

This is a reminder that though we do not have a particular storm in view, June 1st to November 30th is Hurricane season, and we need to stay prepared.  The attached link has a list of things to consider before and after a Hurricane.

You Are the Help Until Help Arrives

As part of America's PrepreAthon!, FEMA has published a new initiative dedicated to helping the public be prepared to respond, until help arrives, in the event of an emergency. "According to a recent National Academies of Science study, trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans under age 46." If you are near someone who suffers life threatening injury or emergency, you may be able to save a life by taking a few simple steps immediately.

You Are the Help Until Help Arrives provides a thorough, 30 minute, web-based training program followed by a survey and a printable certificate. For community-level preparedness, you can download the instructor guide, student tools, and in-person training materials. This program teaches individuals to accomplish three things: 1.) State the steps you can take when responding to a life-threatening situation, 2.) List different reactions you may have in a stressful situation, and 3.) Understand the importance of practice and rehearsal to improve your response to a life-threatening situation.

From calling 9-1-1, to stopping bleeding, positioning the injured, and providing comfort, you can make a difference. During the midst of an emergency, preparedness can help remake what it means to be a bystander.

The North Smithfield Emergency Management Agency,  North Smithfield Community Emergency Response Training, and The Northern Rhode Island REACT are inviting local residents to participate in this program. Training will be offered free of charge by the CERT program this fall. Time and place will be announced shortly.
