Mount Students Will Walk Through Woonsocket For Their Annual School Fundraiser
WOONSOCKET – On Thursday, October 12th, the entire student body of Mount Saint Charles Academy is scheduled to walk around Woonsocket in an effort to raise money for the school’s annual Walkathon. This year, the money raised will benefit school-wide improvements to student culture and opportunities, including transforming the library into an innovative, state-of-the-art makerspace that fosters creativity, engineering, and research. In addition, funds will also be allocated to adding wifi to student buses and improving student culture throughout the school, including extracurricular opportunities and activities
The students will leave Mount after 8a.m. and head towards Wolny soccer field. They will be en route for the bike path, and will then continue towards the Manville Dam parking lot where they will turn around to make their journey back to Mount. All students should be back on the Mount Saint Charles campus around noon. There will be faculty and staff placed throughout the route to ensure supervision and safety.
Using money raised during past Walkathons along with designated donations throughout the years, the Academy has been able to create five brand new and state of the art science labs, a technology lab, two additional classrooms, a new gym complex, and a new fine arts wing. In the summer of 2012, the remaining nine class rooms on Mount’s third floor were gutted and totally reconstructed. The total cost for each room to be renovated was between $50,000 and $60,000. When construction finished in August 2012, this portion of the renovation project had a total cost of $750,000 and resulted in 12 brand new classrooms. During the summers of 2014 and 2015, the second floor, which included eight classrooms and an office, were also gutted and completely updated. The technology infrastructure has also been updated, throughout the school, as a result of funds raised from previous Walkathons.
Alan Tenreiro ’92, president of Mount Saint Charles Academy said “The success of Mount’s Walkathon is a result of the deep devotion students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni have for our incredible school. Their generous participation makes this event not only one of the Academy’s biggest fundraisers, but a great community building event as well. Walkathon gives everyone at school the opportunity to come together to show their Mount pride and their Mount spirit.”
At the donors’ discretion, they can sponsor current students as well as a favorite teacher or Brother of the Sacred Heart. A donation of any amount will help change the lives of current students and generations of Mounties to come. Please donate at walkathon.mountsaintcharlesacademy.org.
