For immediate release: RISE to offer free class in theatrical sound design

 

 
 

Join RISE's Tech Director, Roy Laurent, for a FREE three-hour class on the most challenging aspect of technical theater: sound design. This is the third in a series of free tech workshops to be offered by RISE. We will discuss what sound is, some sound history, the equipment used, and a few tips for success.

Roy Laurent – Current President, Technical Director & Co-Founder
Roy Laurent has been doing things behind the scenes since 1969 when he was asked to be the head projectionist of his grade school. He graduated with high honors in technical theatre from the Hope Arts Magnet Program where he also was awarded the Stanley A. Anderson Award for proficiency in technical theatre. He specializes in sound reproduction, stage lighting design, and stage special effects. He has also worked as a professional roadie for a touring band. Roy has performed as technical director, set foreman, stage manager, sound engineer, lighting designer, and special effects wizard. He has even performed on stage. Roy owns Clear River Technical Services Corporation where he is a freelance electronics engineer. He also teaches electronics at the New England Institute of Technology.
