Former President Trump's hush money trial is back underway in New York City. The presiding judge ruled this morning that Trump violated a gag order, fined him thousands of dollars warned he could face jail time if he does it again. Trump is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in order to hide hush money payments before the 2016 election.        Pro-Palestinian protests are escalating at some university campuses. Demonstrators smashed windows and took over an academic building at Columbia University overnight. Clashes between protestors and police led to arrests on several other campuses as tensions run high at universities nationwide.        House Democrats will oppose any effort to oust Speaker Mike Johnson. Democratic leadership today announced their conference will move to table Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Green's motion to vacate Johnson if put up for a vote. Greene is threatening to push Johnson out over a series of deals he's cut with President Biden, most recently on federal spending, government surveillance, and aid to Ukraine. She introduced the resolution more than a month ago but it's not clear if or when she'll put it to a vote on the House floor.        Four law enforcement officers are dead and at least four others are injured after a shootout in Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings says the officers were part of a fugitive task force serving a warrant at a home on Monday, when a suspect opened fire. That suspect was killed and two others inside the home were taken into custody for questioning.        Four teams could advance to the second round in the NHL's Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight. In the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Maple Leafs will attempt to avoid elimination against the Bruins in Boston in game five of their series. Then, the Carolina Hurricanes will look to knock out the New York Islanders in game five. In the West, the Colorado Avalanche will try to advance with a win over the Jets in Winnipeg. Lastly, the Nashville Predators are set to face off against the Canucks in Vancouver for game five. The Canucks lead that series three games to one.       Viewers will shell out a little more to watch the Summer Olympics on NBC Universal's Peacock streaming service. The monthly subscription fee for Peacock Premium will jump two-dollars to seven-99 starting July 18th for new subscribers. Meanwhile, the price for the mostly ad-free Peacock Premium Plus will go up to 13-99 a month. The new prices will go into effect for exisiting subscribers in August.
