North Smithfield Heritage Association Holding Holiday Gift Shop at Forestdale School

 

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will open its gift shop at the Forestdale School (190 School Street) on Saturday, November 12 from 10 am to 4 pm.  Visitors may purchase puzzles, Christmas ornaments, books, throws, maps, and 2023 calendars as well as many other items that highlight the town’s heritage.   

 

Visitors can subscribe to the free NSHA Newsletter. Members can also renew 2022 dues.

 

All proceeds benefit local historic preservation activities.

Federal prosecutors are filing a new criminal case against Hunter Biden. The exact charges are unknown because court documents are still private, but NBC News is reporting that a source says they are tax-related. Biden is also facing criminal charges in Delaware that are related to the purchase of a gun.        Today marks two months since the Israel-Hamas war began. Israel says its forces have encircled the home of the top Hamas leader in the southern part of the region, who is believed to be hiding underground. This comes as Palestinian civilians are fleeing the fighting at Israel's request but some have warned there is no where safe to go and supplies are quickly running out.        The top Democrat in the House says it's "totally unacceptable" for Congress to leave town for the holidays without passing aid for Ukraine. House Minority Leader Jeffries told reporters both Ukraine and Israel are in "existential fights" directly related to U.S. national security. This comes after Republican senators blocked President Biden's request for aid Wednesday.        Senate Republicans say President Biden is "AWOL" when it comes to securing the southern border. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters today the president's policies are directly resulting in the surge of migrant crossings into the U.S. He said Democrats will have to make significant concessions on border policy if they want to pass the president's funding request for Ukraine and Israel.        Lawmakers from Connecticut are marking nearly 11 years since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal and other lawmakers met with families of victims and gun violence survivors on Capitol Hill today. The Democrat called for tougher gun laws, including a ban on assault rifles and universal background checks.       Today is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. It's the 82nd anniversary of the attack on Hawaii that brought the U.S. into World War Two. On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese military made a surprise attack on the U.S. Naval Base in Pearl Harbor, killing over 24-hundred Americans and injuring over eleven-hundred others.
