Good afternoon

Weather permitting, starting on Friday, June 9 at 7 p.m., we'll temporarily close access to the Route 6/10 Connector inbound to Providence for traffic traveling on Route 6 East at Route 10. It will be closed through the weekend, reopening by 6 a.m. on Monday, June 12. During this time, RIDOT will level and pave a section of the roadway of Route 6 where it merges with Route 10. Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence

As mentioned above, we're prepping for a weekend closure of Route 6 eastbound at Route 10 for repaving from Friday evening, June 9 to Monday morning, June 12.

Additional overnight paving will take place on Route 6 East and West between Hartford Avenue and Plainfield Street. New curbing and sidewalks will be installed on the service road from Tobey Street and Broadway and storm drainage will be installed on Harris Avenue.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

Traffic is flowing smoothly at the new bridge at I-95 North to Route 146 North at Exit 38A (old Exit 23). Motorists should continue to follow the overhead signage that has been placed to assist with getting drivers in the correct lane.

Now that we've opened a newly rebuilt portion of the Smith Street Bridge over I-95 North, we can demolish the other half of the bridge and rebuild it. Pedestrians can cross the bridge on a new sidewalk on the south side of the bridge.

Other construction activity taking place overnight includes demolition, bridge work, and barrier installation, which requires us to close lanes and ramps on I-95 North. Follow signed detours during all closures.

Washington Bridge, East Providence/Providence

With the new traffic pattern in place for the remainder of the year, construction will focus on repairing the structurally deficient bridge deck that carries traffic on I-195 West, with overnight lane closures taking place on the Washington Bridge next week.

Work also continues on the construction of the future off-ramp to Waterfront Drive from I-195 West.

Henderson Bridge, East Providence/Providence

Work continues on the construction of the new bridge over the Seekonk River. Now that all of the steel beams are in place, crews are making progress on the formation of the bridge deck.

Additional work is taking place at what will be the new approach to the bridge in East Providence, with curbing installation and paving for the upcoming roundabout that will eventually allow traffic to enter the new bridge from Massasoit Avenue.

Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2, Newport

Excavation of the old embankment and other road work activities will take place along Admiral Kalbfus Road. Please drive slowly as construction vehicles will be frequently entering and leaving the work zone along Admiral Kalbfus. Commuters for the Navy base can also utilize the new JT Connell roadway south of the roundabout and the Connector Road for an easy alternative access point to the bridge to avoid the Admiral Kalbfus work zone. Sidewalks along the north side will be temporarily closed and pedestrians will need to follow signage to avoid construction area.

Elsewhere along the site, electrical and mast arm work will be underway site wide. Rail work may be conducted at times along the Newport Secondary. The bridge rehabilitation work will also continue along Route 138 at the Third Street, Newport Secondary and JT Connell overpasses and may require temporary lane shifts along Third Street and JT Connell Highway. Flaggers and police details will be onsite to help guide vehicles through the work zone.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield

Construction is in full swing for this major $196 million project that spans almost 8 miles of the Route 146 corridor.

President Biden is willing to debate Donald Trump ahead of the November presidential election. During an interview today with radio host Howard Stern, Biden said he doesn't know when, but that he'd be happy to debate Trump. The comment comes as the Biden campaign has declined to commit to a debate for months.        Former President Trump's criminal hush money trial is back in session today in New York City. Jurors are once again hearing testimony from former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker who gave details this week on how he protected Trump from negative stories leading up to the 2016 presidential election. This comes as the judge in the case said he'll consider four other Trump gag order violations being alleged by the prosecution.       Hundreds of protesters against Israel's war in Gaza have been arrested across the country in the last two weeks. Anti-Israel protests have sprung up across the country since the NYPD arrested over 100 demonstrators at Columbia University on April 18th. The New York Times says since then, protesting students have been setting up tents at campuses across the country, and over 400 protesters have been arrested for refusing to disperse.       According to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, presidents shouldn't have absolute immunity for their actions in office. That's what the Republican leader told NBC's "Meet the Press" as the Supreme Court heard arguments on the issue related to former President Trump Thursday. McConnell said he still stands by the comments he made after he voted to acquit Trump following the 2021 Capitol riot, in which he said the former president could be held accountable by the justice system.       Millions in the central U.S. are under the threat of severe thunderstorms. The multi-day event is underway and is expected to bring large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes to the region. In the West, the Vancouver Canucks will head to Nashville to take on the Predators in game three of their series. The Winnipeg Jets will face off against the Colorado Avalanche in game three as well. Lastly, the Edmonton Oilers will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Kings.
