2021 Begins With Love

New Forever Stamps Available Jan. 14

 

WHAT:

The U.S. Postal Service continues its popular Love series with a new stamp in 2021. The first stamp in the series was issued in 1973. The latest one features a colorful and lighthearted digital illustration.

 

News of the stamp is being shared with hashtag #LoveStamps.

WHO:

USPS Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President Pritha Mehra will serve as dedicating official.

The virtual stamp event will be posted on the Postal Service Facebook and Twitter pages. Please visit usps.com/lovestamps for details of the dedication ceremony.

 

The first-day-of-issue location for the stamp is Loveland, CO. The city’s Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the Postal Service for more than 70 years for an internationally renowned Valentine Remailing Program. Every year, more than 100,000 valentines, packaged inside larger envelopes, are sent to Loveland, where volunteers handstamp them with a Valentine’s Day verse and send them on to the intended recipients. A contest is held each year for residents to submit their designs and verses.

 

There are many reasons to say “I love you” and countless ways to show you care. Sending a card to a loved one or friend is a special way to declare your affection, friendship, gratitude or devotion. Today, there is renewed enthusiasm for handwritten notes that express exactly how you feel.

 

The playful, graphic lettering on this stamp will add color and whimsy to your mailings, making it clear that thought and care have been lavished on the message, inside and out.

 

Love 2021 is being issued as a Forever stamp in panes of 20. Forever stamps will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

 
President Trump is touting the accomplishments of his time in office in a pre-recorded farewell address to the nation. In the video released today, he acknowledged that he took on the hardest fights, including the coronavirus pandemic, and never chose the path that would garner the most praise. As he prepares to leave office, Trump outlined some of the dangers facing the nation, the most prominent of which he said is a "loss of confidence in ourselves."       About a dozen National Guard members are being relieved of their duties at tomorrow's inauguration. Officials conducted routine background checks and looked at a criminal history database. Some were relieved after fellow guard members reported statements they overheard.       Utah Senator Mitt Romney is calling on fellow Republicans to accept the results of the presidential election ahead of tomorrow's inauguration. He encourage unity and said it is time for the country to move on as the government transitions to President-Elect Joe Biden's administration. He also touched on impeachment, and said proceeding with the Senate trial could help put to rest debates about Trump's actions after a group of his supporters stormed the Capitol earlier this month.        D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is telling people to stay away from the nation's capital right now. She says because of increased coronavirus health risks on top of security issues surrounding Wednesday's inauguration, people should sit this one out. She says it feels strange telling people not to come to her city, but it's the right decision.        New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is giving an update on the state's COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan. He announced new vaccine sites at SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY Poly, the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, SUNY Buffalo, and Plattsburgh International Airport, saying more are opening soon. Governor Cuomo also notes the creation of an online "dashboard" that will update residents on vaccine progress.        A man accused of shooting and killing a college grad last week in Philadelphia is out on bail. Police say Josephus Davis has been arrested in the death of 20-year-old Temple grad Milan Loncar, who was shot during a robbery while walking his dog last week. Davis's 200-thousand-dollar bail for a previous assault was lowered to 12-thousand and his 100-thousand-dollar-bail for a previous kidnapping case was lowered to 20-thousand.
