March 21, 2020

Good afternoon,

Please see the attached Executive Order that I am issuing today.

This supplement to the Order issued on March 15, 2020 extends the State of Emergency in North Smithfield to April 5th which parallels the timeline for the current distance learning initiatives. Essentially its issue will result in our obligation to comply with national and state orders. It reduces the size of any allowed gathering to ten, changes the rules for restaurants as it relates to sale of alcoholic beverages and details our efforts to continue municipal services while taking measures to protect the public and our personnel from spread of the virus.

In the multiple conference calls that I have participated in late this week with state leadership, it has been voiced over and over again how important these next few days could be to flatten the data curve related to this virus. We need every adult and child to optimize compliance with social distancing parameters, and especially on the weekend, we need everyone to simply stay home whenever possible.

President Trump says recommendations for wearing medical masks during the coronavirus pandemic are coming soon. Trump told reporters at the White House any guidelines released by the feds may not be mandatory. He argued it's unlikely everybody will be on board with having to wear a mask.       Help is on the way for Americans struggling with the coronavirus outbreak. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced today the economic impact payments will be arriving within two weeks. The payments were part of the massive stimulus package passed by Congress.       Nursing homes are getting updated recommendations from the White House. President Trump explained facilities should be assigning the same staff to the same to the same patients consistently. The hope is to slow the spread of COVID-19.        The White House is reportedly putting together a COVID-19 hotline for Congress. Politico reports it will provide a fast lane for emergency coronavirus issues across the nation.        The coronavirus is forcing another retailer to limit the number of people allowed in its stores. Target will start the new policy on Saturday to promote social distancing. It will also provide masks and gloves if shoppers want them.       Today is National Burrito Day. Restaurants are still providing deals on this favorite dish despite coronavirus shutting down shops across the country. Chipotle, for example, is offering free delivery with your burrito purchase.
