40th Autumnfest Parade Line-Up Nears Completion

 

 

The 40th Autumnfest Parade will take place on Monday, October 8, 2018, Columbus Day, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.  The parade route is 2.5 miles departing Diamond Hill Plaza on Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket at 9:30 AM and ending on Worrall Street, near the Woonsocket Post Officet.  Providing tremendous exposure for the participants, the entire 10 division parade is filmed and later broadcast on the public access channels via Cox Communication, which highlights information and accomplishments of the participants.  The live parade audience exceeds 40,000.

 “Final plans for the 40th Autumnfest Parade is being formulated as all submitted entry forms are being inserted in the parade’s 10 division line-up,” Richard Savaria, Autumnfest General Chairman said.  “The big question is, ‘Are we still accepting entry forms for bands, floats and special entries?’ Yes, there is still a significant need for bands, floats, and special entries.  The absolute deadline for all forms is September 16, 2018.  The deadline has been extended, so as to provide a more accurate parade line-up to the media.”

The parade will again feature “The All-American Veteran’s Division”. This division will host various military bands, marchers, military vehicles and most important, this nations honored veterans. According to Savaria, this year’s float theme will be centered on the “40 years of Autumnfest Memories”.  Float Judges will be awarding five trophies in the following categories:  “Most Beautiful”, “Maple Leaf Award”, “Best in Parade”, “Most Creative” and the “Judges Award”. In the past years, large numbers of floats registered and competed for these prestigious awards. With a 25 float limit, it would be wise to register early. Entry forms are accessible on the web site. As the community celebrates and enjoys the amenities of the 40th Autumnfest Celebration it also honors and acknowledges an individual whom unselfishly gives of himself to better the community, its people and somehow Autumnfest without compensation. This year’s title of Autumnfest Grand Marshal is Paul Bourget.  Paul and his wife Denise will be riding down the parade route in a mode yet to be announced. The Grand Marshal’s Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Savini’s Pomodoro Restaurant, Rathbun Street, Woonsocket from 6-10 PM. Tickets can be purchased on the Autumnfest website (www.autumnfest.org) under Grand Marshal.

 Invitation letters to area bands, fire & police departments, public service clubs, state and local officials and all towns officials of the Blackstone Valley have been forwarded as the Steering Committee is seeking their participation in this year’s parade.  If you have an entry that would make the 40th Autumnfest Parade interesting, we would like to hear from you.

We are still looking for DJ’s or other mounted music providers to be in our parade. A completed Special Entry form is required. As for all other parade entries, last year’s participants should have received an invitation and this year’s entry forms. President Trump says the tariffs imposed on other countries are having the desired effect, and he's now open to negotiations. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said his initial tariff plan is over, and he's watching it settle in. He said every country has called, asking to cut a trade deal with the U.S. to avoid the tariffs.        Stocks are closing sharply lower one day after President Trump announced sweeping global tariffs. The S&P 500 had its worse day since 2020 as the White House announced a baseline tariff rate of ten-percent against most countries yesterday that will go into effect on Saturday. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 16-79 to 40-545. The S&P 500 lost 274 points to 53-96. The Nasdaq lost 10-50 points to 16-550.        A multi-day severe weather event is unfolding for more than 55-million people. It comes after at least seven people were killed in the South Central U.S. after storms that included several tornadoes hit the region yesterday. Tonight, there is still a tornado threat for the same areas, but forecasters warn there could also be potentially catastrophic flooding in the Mid-South and Midwest.        The Federal Aviation Administration is offering more support to air traffic controllers at Reagan National Airport. The Critical Incident Stress Management team will be meeting with airport personnel sometime early this month. The FAA is also reviewing the arrival rate at the airport and will conduct regular wellness checks.        The Senate has confirmed Dr. Mehmet Oz as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The television personality was confirmed on a party-line vote of 53-45. Oz now assumes a role that provides health insurance to roughly 160 million Americans.        Steven Spielberg and George Lucas top the latest Forbes list of celebrity billionaires. The latest Forbes ranking of the world's wealthiest people includes 18 celebrities, with film director Steven Spielberg topping the list at five-point-three-billion dollars. Star Wars creator George Lucas is in second place with a net worth of five-point-one-billion dollars.
