Northwest Naturals Recalls Cat Food

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is advising the public that Northwest Naturals is recalling one batch of Northwest Naturals brand 2-pound Feline Turkey Recipe raw frozen pet food. This recall was initiated after the batch tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza virus.

Consumption of raw or uncooked pet food contaminated with highly pathogenic avian influenza can cause illness in animals. To date, one case of illness in a domestic cat has been reported in connection with this product. (This illness did not occur in Rhode Island. There have been no avian flu illnesses identified in Rhode Island animals related to consumption of food that was positive for avian flu.)

The recalled product is packaged in 2-pound plastic bags with “Best if used by” dates of 05/21/26 B10 and 06/23/2026 B1. (See labels attached.) The product was sold through distributors across the country, including in Rhode Island.

The risk of avian flu for the general public remains low. Since 2024, the United States has reported over 60 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza infections in humans, most of which have been mild cases in people who work with dairy or poultry. None of these cases have been in Rhode Island, and there has been no documented human-to-human spread.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should immediately discard the product and contact the place of purchase for a full refund.

The shooting that unfolded just blocks from the White House on Wednesday has now claimed the life a member of the National Guard. President Trump confirmed the death of Sarah Beckstrom on Thanksgiving Day, calling her "outstanding in every single way." The other soldier shot in the incident remains hospitalized in critical condition. The suspect, an Afghan national who worked with the U.S. to fight the Taliban, is hospitalized as well.        President Trump says that the U.S. could "very soon" take action against alleged Venezuelan drug traffickers on land, expanding operations that have so far focused on the Caribbean Sea. Trump spoke Thursday as part of Thanksgiving remarks to troops around the world, saying carrying out those actions on land would actually be far easier.        Crowds will be out in force this Black Friday looking for deals. The National Retail Federation predicts nearly 187 million people will shop between now and Cyber Monday, nearly three million more than last year. But sales growth is expected to be slow because of higher prices.        Post Malone paid tribute to the late Marshawn Kneeland during his halftime performance at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game. The Cowboys played the Kansas City Chiefs at AT&T Stadium with Texas native Post Malone as their halftime performer. The pop star wore Kneeland's number 94 on his jacket during his performance, and gave him a shout out after his set. The Cowboys defensive end died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound earlier this month at the age of 24.        The Trump Administration is canceling funding for World AIDS Day. The day has been observed on December 1st of each year since 1988 to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic and to mourn those who have died. The "New York Times" says earlier this month, the State Department instructed its employees not to use federal funding to commemorate the day as part of a new federal policy to "refrain from messaging" on commemorative days, which includes publicly promoting World AIDS Day.        "Zootopia 2" is off to a huge start at the box office. The Disney animated film brought in a near-record 39-and-a-half-million in its opening day Wednesday. That's the third-best opening day ever for a Disney animated film behind "Moana 2" and "Frozen 2."
