Salute to Spring at the Museum of Work & Culture

 

(WOONSOCKET, R.I.) – The Museum of Work & Culture’s 23rd annual Salute to Spring~Bonjour Printemps event will take place on Sunday, April 3, at 1:30pm, and will celebrate Franco-American culture. 

The program will welcome back popular Franco-American singer and songwriter Josée Vachon in concert. Ticket holders can sample poutine throughout the afternoon with Friskie Fries, Red’s, and Bonetown Burgers & BBQ’s food trucks on-site serving the French-Canadian dish of french fries, gravy and cheese curds. Pastries prepared by Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery will also be served.

The afternoon will also feature a performance by the Good Living Band, as well the presentation from independent scholar Jeanne Douillard, “Silent Presence - The French in New England,” in which she will take a fresh look at the complex, hidden story of her people in the Americas.

Guests will also have the opportunity to take part in creating a giant 25th anniversary mural for the museum that will be on display in the museum’s gallery. The afternoon will conclude with the culmination of the museum’s annual raffle, with 30 gift certificates to area restaurants and entertainment venues, as well as the announcement of the winner of the 6th annual Poutine Indulgence.

The American Jewish Committee is condemning Sunday's attack in Boulder, Colorado. An Egyptian national is in custody after a flamethrower attack on a group calling for the release of Israeli hostages held by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. At least eight people were injured. The committee released a statement calling it "another vile attack against Jews in America."        An investigation is ongoing into a mass stabbing at a men's shelter in Salem, Oregon that left nearly a dozen people hospitalized. Police say eleven people were injured in last night's attack. There's no word on their current conditions. Officers arrested the suspect at the scene.        President Trump's so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill" will be making its way to the Senate soon. The multi-trillion-dollar tax and spending package narrowly passed the House, and the Senate will take up the measure this week, where Republicans can only afford to lose three votes. Democrats say the White House is trying to cut Medicaid and other social safety nets by billion of dollars. Republicans say they are much-needed "reforms" to the programs that will cut the deficit.        It's that time of year again. The Atlantic hurricane season is officially underway. There are normally 14 named storms during the six-month period that begins on June 1st, including three major hurricanes. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says it expects between 13 and 19 named storms this year, and that up to ten of them could become hurricanes. It expects at least three of them to become major hurricanes.        Prosecutors and the defense are preparing for closing arguments in the sex crimes retrial of Harvey Weinstein in New York. The former movie producer is not expected to testify which means closing arguments are likely to start tomorrow. The jury could get the case either tomorrow or Wednesday.        Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actress Hailee Steinfeld have tied the knot. The two were married in California in an outdoor ceremony on Saturday after being engaged since November of 2024.
