Sen. Quezada Introduces Legislation That Would Gradually Increase Minimum Wage to $15 by 2024

 

STATE HOUSE — Sen. Ana B. Quezada (D-Dist. 2, Providence) has introduced legislation that would increase Rhode Island’s minimum wage from $11.50 to $15 over a four-year period.

The bill (2021-S 0001) would increase the minimum wage to $12.25 on Oct. 1, 2021; raise it to $13 on Oct. 1, 2022; raise it to $14 on Oct. 1, 2023; and finally to $15 on Oct. 1, 2024.

“This legislation will go a long way toward breaking the cycle of poverty that has ensnared so many of Rhode Island’s families,” said Senator Quezada. “A living wage will not only help people who work full time from living in poverty, it will also ease the demand on public assistance and bolster the state’s economy by ensuring that families have the income required to meet their basic needs.”

The legislation, which is cosponsored by Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence), Majority Leader Michael J. McCaffrey (D-Dist. 29, Warwick), Majority Whip Maryellen Goodwin (D-Dist. 1, Providence) and Sen. Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket), has been referred to the Senate Committee on Labor.

Both Comey and James claim they did nothing wrong and were indicted for political reasons.        The FBI has plans to interview Senator Mark Kelly and five other Democrats who encouraged military members to refuse to follow illegal orders. That's according to multiple reports. The FBI has reportedly been in contact with Capitol Police to get interviews scheduled. It comes after the Department of War opened a thorough review into allegations of misconduct by Kelly.        The search is on for a Virginia high school football coach accused of child pornography. Police declared Travis Turner a fugitive after authorities attempted to serve arrest warrants at his home in Appalachia on Friday. The 46-year-old, who coaches the Union High School football team in Big Stone Gap, is wanted on charges of possession of child pornography and using a computer to solicit a minor.        Four more people are in custody in connection with the October jewel heist at the Louvre Museum. French police announced two men ages 38 and 29 and two women ages 31 and 40 were arrested on Tuesday. Eight people in all are facing likely criminal charges while the jewels worth an estimated 102-million dollars remain missing without any trace.        What could be the largest T-Rex ever found is being unearthed in Montana. Trent Stanton made the discovery when he came across a large bone sticking out of the ground while out hunting earlier this year. Stanton called his cousin Clayton Phipps, a rancher and fossil hunter who says one of the teeth they've dug up is a record 15 inches long. Excavation at the dig site is set to resume in the spring.
