PRESS RELEASE
CITY OF WOONSOCKET
December 27, 2019
Rubbish and Recycling Holiday Pickup Schedule
On Wednesday January 1, 2020 in the observance of New Years Day the Woonsocket Material Recycle Facility will be closed and there will be no trash or recycling collection.
Curbside pick-up for trash and recycling for January 2nd through January 3rd will be delayed by one day.
TRASH and RECYCLING WINTER TIME COLLECTION
Residents are reminded that wintertime weather may delay trash and recycling collection services. Every effort will be taken to ensure prompt service however if the roadways should become a safety issue for the rubbish trucks then collection would be delayed to the following day.
Accumulated snow on sidewalks may also hamper the rubbish collection service. To ensure curbside pick-up, please shovel an area that will allow the trash and recycling carts to sit level. Cart covers should be closed preventing snow from adding to the weight of the waste.
The placement of your cart is important, since the collection vehicles lifting arm requires clearance: 3 feet on all sides and 12 feet overhead. The carts should be no more than 3 feet away from the curb or road edge, and the arrows on the lid must be pointing toward the street, with the hinges facing away from your street. Your GREEN recycling cart should be placed at least 3 feet from your BURGUNDY trash cart.
Place carts curbside on your collection day by 7 am.
Sincerely,
Michael Debroisse
Superintendent of Solid Waste

Mike Pompeo says the State Department is going to investigate the possible surveillance of Marie Yovanovitch [[ yo-VON-ah-vitch ]], the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine. The Secretary of State said "We will do everything we need to do to evaluate whether there was something that took place there." Pompeo insisted that he knew nothing about it until news reports broke this week.        Three men are being charged with conspiracy to commit murder and participating in a criminal street gang as part of a hate group that wants to stage a gun rights rally in Virginia. The Wall Street Journal is reporting the three men from Georgia were arrested earlier this week in Maryland and Delaware, and discussed opening fire from different positions at Monday's rally.        A federal judge says the parents charged in the college admissions scandal will go on trial in staggered groups. One of those parents is former Full House star Lori Loughlin [[ LOCK-lin ]]. The government charged 36 parents in the Varsity Blues case and 20 of those have pled guilty.        Harvey Weinstein's trial on sexual assault charges is moving forward, as a jury has been seated in Manhattan Criminal Court. The 12-person jury is made up of seven men and five women, eight of whom are white and four are black. Weinstein faces rape charges in the case.       Black smoke is billowing the sky in western Pennsylvania. A tanker truck inside the garage exploded 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, sending two people to the hospital with burns. The explosion occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. local time, causing the roof to collapse and risking several more propane trucks in the immediate vicinity.        Former Kansas City Royals owner and Walmart CEO David Glass has died. He was 84. Kansas City went to the World Series twice during his ownership, winning the title in 2015. New team owner John Sherman said Glass' passion for baseball and love for the city "was the driving force in bringing success" to the franchise.
