Christine Chamberland Appointed City of Woonsocket Interim Finance Director

WOONSOCKET, R.I: Mayor Christopher Beauchamp announced today that effective July 30, Christine Chamberland will serve as Interim Finance Director for the City of Woonsocket. Chamberland has worked in multiple capacities within the city’s Finance Department for over 33 years, including Finance Director. Currently, she is working as the city’s Enterprise Fund Finance Administrator, a position she will continue while assuming the role of Interim Finance Director. Chamberland replaces Christine Coutu, who has left for another job opportunity.

Chamberland will oversee all the city’s finance operations, including accounting, treasury, assessing, and personnel. Beauchamp highlighted that Chamberland’s top priority is to finalize the Fiscal Year 2023 audit which is underway with the city’s new auditors, Marcum LLP. The Mayor is reallocating existing resources and will be adding outside temporary assistance to fortify the Finance Department. Beauchamp also offered that the city would search for a permanent finance director after the Fiscal Year 2023 audit is completed and the Fiscal Year 2024 audit is underway.

Mayor Beauchamp expressed his confidence in Chamberland, stating, "We are fortunate to be able to appoint a highly experienced finance professional like Christine Chamberland as Interim Finance Director. Christine Chamberland knows every financial function in the city and will be able to step in and provide leadership to our department heads in furthering the city’s finance-related goals."

President Trump is reportedly planning to roll out a new proposal as soon as today that's aimed at addressing rising health care costs spurred on by the expiration of Affordable Care Act subsidies. Those Obamacare subsidies are due to expire at the end of the year and the administration is looking to head off a spike in premiums.        Georgia Governor Brian Kemp will soon set a special election date to fill Marjorie Taylor Greene's seat. The Republican congresswoman surprised many when she announced on Friday that she'll be resigning from Congress on January 5th. Greene says her recent feud with President Trump, largely over the Epstein files, and the threats to her family's safety because of that were both driving decisions.        Attorney General Pam Bondi and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee are scheduled to visit Memphis today where they're expected to give an update on the Memphis Safe Task Force. Their appearance comes days after a Nashville judge temporarily ordered the National Guard pulled out of Memphis, saying Governor Lee overstepped his authority when deploying troops to that city.        A woman who as a child stabbed her friend multiple times in a bid to appease the fictional "Slender Man" character is back in custody. Morgan Geyser apparently cut off an monitoring bracelet and left a group home in Wisconsin over the weekend. She was located last night at a truck stop in a small town in Illinois, south of Chicago. Geyser had been in a mental institution since the 2014 stabbing. Earlier this year, a judge approved a conditional release plan that allowed her to live in the group home.        'Tis the season to be on the look out for holiday scammers. One of the top scams to beware of is fake lookalike digital storefronts, often using URLs that look similar to the real thing. And with AI making it harder to tell fiction from reality, bogus celebrity endorsements that generate traffic to fake websites are also a concern this year.        "Wicked: For Good" is number one at the box office, with a 150-million-dollar opening weekend in North America. Way back in second place was "Now You See Me: Now You Don't," which brought in just over nine-million dollars after opening in the top spot last weekend.
