Attorney General Hires Director of Community Violence Intervention and Prevention

P.J. Fox, formerly of the Nonviolence Institute and the City of Providence, joins the Office of the Attorney General

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Attorney General Peter F. Neronha today announced he is welcoming Paul J. “P.J.” Fox, a longstanding community leader and non-violence advocate as the Office’s first Director of Community Violence Intervention and Prevention.

 

In the new role of Director of Community Violence Intervention and Prevention, Mr. Fox will take a proactive approach to violence intervention, spearheading outreach to local community organizations and stakeholders, coordinating violence prevention efforts, and implementing both novel and evidence-based strategies and programs with the overall goal of creating safer communities. His first day was Monday, February 26, 2024.

 

Mr. Fox joins the Office with more than 20 years of experience in the areas of community violence intervention, violence reduction strategies, research and analysis, crisis management, and grant writing.

 

“Our Office continues to attract dedicated and talented public servants who wish to impact positive change in Rhode Island, and we proudly welcome P.J. to the team,” said Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha. “From the very start of my administration, I have prioritized community outreach, and I see a real opportunity here to further focus those efforts on violence prevention. We are continuing to get out on offense to keep Rhode Islanders safe, and this role will do just that, taking a new and innovative approach to violent crime prevention.”

 

P.J. Fox previously worked at the Nonviolence Institute in Providence from 2003 to 2014, and again from 2015 to 2020. Over the course of those 16 years, P.J. served in various capacities including Director of Operations, Chief Operating Officer, and ultimately Executive Director.

 

Mr. Fox also worked at the City of Providence in violence intervention and prevention from December 2021 to April 2022 and as the Chief of Staff to Providence City Council from December 2020 to April 2021. He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island.

 

 

Severe flash flooding in the East Coast has killed at least two people. The two were killed in New Jersey after their car was swept away by high waters. The storm system yesterday sent floodwaters rushing through New York subway stations, causing mass transit nightmares.        President Trump says Ukrainian President Zelensky should not target Moscow with military attacks. This after multiple reports said Trump spoke with Zelensky on July Fourth and asked if Ukraine could strike the Russian capital. Earlier today, the White House said Trump was "merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing."        A weather system could bring heavy rain to parts of Florida. The system being monitored was designated Invest 93-L by the National Hurricane Center which indicates an area that is under increased scrutiny for the possibility of tropical development. According to forecasts, tropical moisture will enhance the intensity of the slow-moving storms over Florida with the possibility of producing one to three inches of rain per hour.        President Trump says the U.S. is destined to be the world's number one superpower in artificial intelligence. He spoke at the Inaugural Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit on Tuesday. The event brought together some of the top leaders and investors in energy and AI.        Two familiar names are early favorites for the 2028 presidential election. A recent poll released by Echelon Insights found that Former Vice President Kamala Harris and Vice President JD Vance as frontrunners for their respective parties. Harris received 26-percent of support among Democrats and Democratic-leading voters in a presidential primary survey while Vance received 43-percent support among Republicans.        Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" may not hit theaters until next year, but movie goers will be able to book their tickets starting this week. Tickets will go on sale Thursday for select showings at IMAX theaters that will present it in Nolan's preferred 70 millimeter film format. There are only about 30 IMAX 70 millimeter film theaters in the world.
