Agenda posted November 8, 2023

The partial federal government shutdown hits Day 22 today, now the second-longest in U.S. history. Senate Democrats are refusing to back a House funding plan unless it includes health insurance subsidies for more than 20 million Americans. Lawmakers will meet again today to try to end the stalemate, as Democrats push for a sit-down with President Trump. House Speaker Mike Johnson says Trump will meet with them only after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer reopens the government.        An alleged illegal immigrant and a federal marshal are recovering after a shooting in Los Angeles Tuesday. Officials say an ICE officer shot the immigrant while he was attempting to flee immigration agents. Carlitos Ricardo Parias, a TikToker who goes by Richard LA, has been charged with assault on a federal officer, with authorities claiming he tried to ram into the immigration agents with his car. One of the bullets fired by the ICE agent also struck a U.S. marshal assisting in the arrest.        The man accused of making threats to shoot up Atlanta's busy Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is now facing federal charges. Billy Joe Cagle was arrested Monday after he allegedly posted threats on social media and drove from his Cartersville, Georgia home to the airport. Investigators say they found an AR-15 and 27 rounds of ammunition in his truck.        The White House is pushing back on reports that President Trump is considering a pardon for Sean "Diddy" Combs. A White House official told NBC News there's "zero truth" to the claim, calling it "fake news." TMZ reported Monday that Trump might commute Diddy's four-year prison sentence on prostitution-related charges, a story the outlet says it stands by. Diddy's legal team is currently appealing his conviction.        Netflix fell short of third-quarter earnings expectations, blaming the miss on a dispute with Brazilian tax authorities. The company still met revenue targets at eleven-and-a-half-billion-dollars, but earnings per share came in more than a dollar below estimates. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Tesla, which reports earnings after the closing bell. Some analysts say the results could push its stock to the highest level since last December.        Michael Jordan says he still misses playing basketball and wishes he could "take a magic pill" to get back on the court. The Bulls legend made the comment during his debut as a special contributor for the return of the NBA on NBC. Jordan says he hopes to "pay it forward" by inspiring future generations of players. The six-time NBA champion will appear on select broadcasts throughout the 2025-26 season.
