RIPTA Invites Public to Provide Input on ADA Paratransit Expansion Study

Two Virtual Public Meetings to be held September 20 and 21

 

Providence, Rhode Island, September 14, 2022. . .The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has been asked by the RI General Assembly to study paratransit service throughout the state and to design a statewide program addressing the needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities traveling outside the current paratransit service area. RIPTA will host two virtual meetings to introduce this study and seek public input.

Who should attend?

Individuals with disabilities, older adults, and other individuals that are unable to utilize RIPTA’s fixed route bus system and who have transportation needs that are not served by RIPTA’s RIde ADA paratransit service or other programs.

About the ADA Paratransit Expansion Study

The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that RIPTA provide paratransit services to people with disabilities who cannot use fixed-route service. Qualified individuals who have both trip origins and destinations within a 3/4-mile radius of an operating RIPTA fixed-route bus can use the RIde Program – RIPTA’s ADA paratransit service. In response to the RI General Assembly’s request, RIPTA is now studying options to provide broader levels of accessible transportation, particularly to serve individuals whose travel does not fall within the existing RIde ADA paratransit service area. RIPTA will consider the costs and benefits of various options and report back to the General Assembly in early 2023.

 

The $75,000 study is funded through RIPTA’s share of the RI state gas tax.

In fact, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said he expects the busiest Thanksgiving on record, with 73-million Americans on the road, 31-million in the skies, and one-point-two-million riding the rail. Smith says he wants to have a "profound" impact on who the next president is, while not ruling out that person being him. In an interview with The Hill, the ESPN and sports personality said that he isn't thinking about running right now, and that he loves what he does and isn't willing to "give up" his money. He added that he wants to make an impact, and that if you are an elected official, he wants to be a place you're going to have to come through if you're going to get to where you want to go."        Portland Trail Blazers head coach and Basketball Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups has pleaded not guilty in his federal case involving rigged poker games. He's accused of using his well known name to lure players into rigged poker game tables and then cheat those players by using x-ray machines and tampered shuffling machines. The games were allegedly paid for by the mafia.        Authorities investigating a Virginia high school football coach say he's gone missing. Virginia State Police issued a statewide alert for Travis Turner, who was last seen Thursday in Wise County, in the southwestern part of the state. The 46-year-old coaches the undefeated Union High School football team in Big Stone Gap.
