As part of the semi-annual hydrant flushing program, the Woonsocket Water Division will be flushing the hydrants in the following area:  Elm St from Robinson St to Social St. Social St from Chester St to Earl St.  Privilege St from Rathbun St to North Main St. Also,  East School St  from Rathbun St to North Main St. including all side streets in these areas. The flushing will start at 9pm Tuesday June 21st  and continue until 5am, Wednesday, June 22nd.

 

Customers may experience discolored water and lower than normal pressure. If you experience discolored water, please run your COLD water for a short time to clear the lines. Store clean water in containers for usage during these hours.

 

Our Unidirectional Flushing Program is a method of cleaning the water main lines through a network of flushing sequences with the water being discharged from a fire hydrant. A UDF program involves closing valves in a specific sequence to create water movement in one direction while opening specific fire hydrants at the end of that sequence. The UDF technique allows higher water flow velocities by isolating certain sections of water mains. The higher velocity allows for better scouring of the pipes and will use 40% less water in the flushing process than conventional flushing methods. Flushing pipes at higher velocities will dislodge and remove mineral deposits and sediment that accumulate in the water mains.

Wall Street is closing at record highs on mild inflation data. Stocks surged after a softer-than-expected CPI reading boosted odds the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at its two remaining policy meetings this year. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 472 points to 47-207. The S&P 500 added 53 points to 67-91. The Nasdaq rose 263 points to 23-204.        President Trump leaves tonight for a jam-packed multi-day trip to Asia. The trip includes a high-stakes sit-down with Chinese President Xi Jinping [[ she jeen-peeng ]] in South Korea. China and the U.S. have been involved in a trade standoff since Trump took office for the second time. Trump will start the trip in Malaysia, which is hosting a regional summit, then he'll go to Japan, where he'll meet the new prime minister.        Americans are being warned flight delays and disruptions will get worse as the government shutdown rolls on. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says he expects things to get worse starting Tuesday -- the day air traffic controllers would normally get their direct-deposit checks. The Senate is adjourned until Monday after failing to pass spending legislation for a 12th time earlier this week.        Canada is pushing pause on its TV ad about tariffs after President Trump's reaction. Trump announced he was halting trade talks with Canada after the ad that used former President Reagan's warnings about tariffs started airing. Today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he's pausing the ad after the first two World Series games "so that trade talks can resume." The Canadian prime minister already left for Asia, where he was scheduled to meet-up with Trump in Malaysia to discuss trade.        A popular cholesterol drug is being recalled over its effectiveness. Ascend Laboratories says it's recalling over 140-thousand bottles of its generic drug for Lipitor because the pills may not dissolve properly and be less effective. The FDA says if you take the pills, the probability of serious adverse health consequences is "remote."        The first pitch of the 2025 World Series is tonight in Toronto. The Blue Jays will host the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers tonight for game one of the Fall Classic. The game starts at 8 p.m. Eastern.
