The President is selecting Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney as his acting chief of staff. The move comes after several people turned down the normally coveted position. Earlier this week, sources said Mulvaney wasn't interested in the job and was hoping for an appointment to be either Treasury or Commerce secretary.        Special Counsel Robert Mueller [[ MULL-er ]] is assuring that FBI agents didn't sway former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn in a way that made him lie about his Russian contacts. Today, Mueller responded to questions raised by Flynn's lawyers about how the FBI conducted its interview with Flynn. Mueller said nothing about the way the interview was conducted caused the defendant to make false statements to the FBI.        The White House is calling Michael Cohen a liar and a convicted criminal. Today spokesman Hogan Gidley told reporters that they should not be giving Cohen's comments any credence. Cohen is President Trump's former lawyer.        The White House is weighing in on the death of a seven-year old girl in Border Patrol custody. Today, spokesman Hogan Gidley said the incident was horrific, tragic and unnecessary. Gidley noted that it can be very dangerous to try and enter the U.S. illegally.        Spanish tax authorities are charging international pop singer Shakira with tax evasion. The Spanish government says Shakira owes more than 14-and-a-half-million euros in unpaid taxes from the years 2012 through 2014. Spanish authorities allege that Shakira took steps to conceal her residency during those years because of the taxes.        Think you could give up your smartphone for a year? Vitamin Water wants to put that to the test and it could make one person a hundred-thousand dollars richer. NBC's Stephanie Gosk took a quick poll on the streets of New York to see how many people were down to detach from their smartphones. ### Wafa Shahid/kds
