Press Release

Date: July 3rd 2018

Release: Immediate

On July 3, 2018, at approximately 1:20 pm, the North Smithfield Police Department was contacted for the report of a toddler locked in a vehicle while unattended. When officers arrived on scene, the vehicle was still running, with the keys in the ignition.

Patrolman Emanuel Avila was the first officer to arrive on scene, and attempted to open the doors to the vehicle. When Patrolman Avila realized that the vehicle was locked, he was forced to shatter both the driver’s side, and passenger’s side front windows. Officers were able to safely remove the toddler from the vehicle, and immediately had him assessed by rescue personnel. Once it was determined that the child was free of any serious injury, DCYF was contacted.

The suspect in this case was identified as 21 year old, Annelise Marie Ambert, of 75 High Street, Milford, Massachusetts. Ambert will make her initial appearance today, before a Justice of the Peace, and will be heard on the charge of cruelty or neglect of a child. When given the opportunity, Ambert declined to provide a statement to police.
