City of Woonsocket to Host FREE Hazardous Waste Collection, Electronic Waste Collection, and Document Shredding Event
WOONSOCKET, RI: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the City of Woonsocket, in conjunction with the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation’s Eco-Depot, Shred RI, of Johnston, RI, and Indie Cycle, LLC of Charlestown, RI, will host a FREE event on Saturday, May 19, 2018, rain or shine, from 8:00 am to 1 pm at the Woonsocket Public Services Division Facility located at 1117 River Street in order to give residents of Woonsocket as well as residents of Rhode Island the opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste and electronic waste, and to give residents of Woonsocket only the opportunity to shred documents.
"Our goal is to make it super easy for residents to deep clean their homes, basements and sheds of all the potentially dangerous hazardous materials that are stored away and often forgotten about", said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt.
Hazardous waste includes chemicals that are toxic, flammable, combustible, caustic, corrosive, reactive, etc. Some examples of hazardous waste are oil-based paints, antifreeze, motor oil, etc. Electronic wastes, such as computers and various other electronic equipments can also be dropped off for disposal. Other items that can also be dropped off are: propane tanks, fluorescent light tubes, automobile batteries, appliances, clothes, books, rigid plastic, scrap metals, needles, cardboard, paper, etc.
"Over a thousand vehicles will visit our event. Gates open at 8 am, but attendees will start lining up at 7 am", said City Superintendent of Solid Waste Mike Debroisse, who is coordinating the event. Debroisse went on to say that, "Rhode Island Resource Corporation has its Eco-Depot down to a science, but due to the high volume of expected attendees, it is best for residents to secure an appointment in advance." New York police say the man who set himself on fire outside the Donal Trump trial drove from Florida to New York City earlier this week. The man had some papers with him that detailed conspiracy theories involving local politics. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
