At approximately 8:15 AM this morning Woonsocket Police responded to 408 Cass Avenue 1st floor right apartment for a sudden death. Family members had gone to that location to check on the well-being of Derek Desjardin, age 30. Desjardin was a resident of that apartment who had failed to report for work.

Upon arrival police determined the victim to be deceased and evidence at the scene indicated that the deceased was possibly the victim of a homicide. Woonsocket Detectives and representatives of the RI Medical Examiner’s Office responded and processed the scene and examined the victim.  It was determined that Desjardin was the victim of a homicide and died as a result of gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the RI Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination and an autopsy.  

At approximately 10:15 AM Woonsocket Police Officers located a Paul R. Raposo age 26 at River Island Park in Woonsocket. Raposo is a roommate of Derek Desjardin with whom he resided at 408 Cass Avenue and was a person of interest regarding the death investigation of Desjardin. Raposo was taken into custody without incident. At the time of his arrest he was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol.

As a result of this investigation Paul R. Raposo was charged with the following criminal offenses:

 

Domestic Murder

 

Discharge of a firearm when committing a crime of violence with death resulting

 

License or permit required for carrying a pistol

 

Discharging a firearm within City limits

The U.S. reported yet another depressing number Wednesday, the highest number of coronavirus deaths in one day since May. The toll was almost 15-hundred, pushing the U.S. closer to 170-thousand deaths.        President Trump is calling Joe Biden's running mate an "unusual pick." Trump said Wednesday there was nobody more insulting to Biden than Kamala [[ COMMA-la ]] Harris during the Democratic primary race. Biden and Harris appeared together for the first time Wednesday.       Treasury Secretary Steven [[ mih-NEW-chin ]] is accusing Democrats of having no interest in negotiating a coronavirus relief package. Mnuchin released a statement Wednesday after talking to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi released her own statement, claiming the White House won't budge from its position.        A Black militia group doesn't intend to attend a protest planned by right-wing extremist groups this Saturday at Georgia's Stone Mountain Park. The leader of the NFAC told the Atlanta Journal Constitution his organization doesn't intend to interfere with the groups' constitutional rights to protest.        The New York Yankees and TikTok are making a deal, despite President Trump's threats to shut down the popular social media app in the U.S. over national security concerns. TikTok will pay ten-million-dollars for sponsorship rights, including signs at Yankee Stadium.        A 30-foot waterfall full of wishes in a North Carolina town is now sitting dry. The aquarium there drained all the water to get 100 gallons of coins. The facility has been closed for nearly six months because of the coronavirus pandemic. It's now counting all the coins and will reveal the dollar amount later this week.
