City Council Special Meeting - May 11 2020

The Biden administration is considering mandatory COVID-19 testing for passengers on domestic flights. The head of the CDC's Division of Global Migration and Quarantine says conversations about the possible move are underway. Just yesterday, new rules went into effect requiring international travelers to present a negative COVID test to enter the U.S.        The federal government is buying an extra 200-million doses of coronavirus vaccines. President Biden hosted a White House event yesterday and said the distribution of vaccines to states will be significantly ramped up. Biden called the nationwide vaccination program a "wartime effort," and lamented the 420-thousand Americans who have been killed by the virus.        A Senate vote is suggesting Democrats don't have enough Republican support to convict former President Trump at next month's impeachment trial. Only five Republicans sided with Democrats yesterday in voting down a resolution by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky to dismiss the impeachment. After the vote, Paul accused Democrats of "wasting our time."        A new lineup of winter storms threatens to spread more misery across the nation today. The storm that dumped "historic" amounts of snow from the Northwest to the central U.S. is forecast to move east today and then head offshore. Travel conditions continue to be treacherous across much of the country.        The Baseball Hall of Fame will not be having a Class of 2021. All 25 players up for election at the national hall of fame fell short of the 75-percent vote needed to make it to Cooperstown. It marks the first time since 2013 that no player was selected and just the ninth time ever.        Disney's latest trailer for "Raya and the Last Dragon" is getting mixed reactions online. The new animated movie is inspired by southeast Asian countries, but some viewers are pointing out that most of the voice roles are going to actors of East Asian descent, instead of Southeast Asian actors. Other viewers have said they're are excited to see the culture represented in a new Disney movie.
